The speakeasy is a tired trope these days, sure, but the folks behind Wink and Nod are using it well to revamp the former Noche space (which they owned) into a subterranean den of vice and imbibing. On site: vintage bar-ware, libations named after women of note (including one actress who burned up the screen in the immortal 1987 celluloid classic Mannequin) and the kind of feeling you’re going to begin tippling with gleeful abandon. Mostly because you can abandon things gleefully. It’s just your thing.
Brought to you by the Boston Nightlife Ventures team behind watering holes like Forum in the Back Bay, and the forthcoming colonial tavern makeover of The Tap, the facelift comes with plenty of cocktails to sip at the 20-seat bar, along with specialized shooters incorporating beer and spirits (see: 16oz Narragansett Lager and shot of Ardberg 10 year old scotch), and house made/bottled Moscow Mules (we’re not saying they’re great for road sodas, but we’re not not saying it either).
Bartender Brian Mantz (who cut his local teeth in spots like Carrie Nation, Scholars, and Green Street), notes that while their constantly rotating “leased libations” list is courtesy of their bartender comrades working around the world (Japan, England, Houston), their original concoctions are where it’s at.
